NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management

The NEBOSH Diploma in Environmental Management is designed for individuals with responsibilities for the management of environmental risk in relation to the damage caused by work activities. It provides specialist knowledge on issues such as environmental leadership, sustainability, and pollution prevention and control. It is invaluable for managers taking on environmental responsibilities and those aiming to develop and implement effective environmental management systems within their organisation.

Health safety and environment

The syllabus is designed to provide students with relevant expertise and to empower them to positively influence environmental management standards and practice at every organizational level. The qualification covers the control measures of major types of environmental risks, including:

  • The principles and drivers for environmental sustainability.

The NEBOSH National Diploma in Environmental Management is assessed by a three- hour written examination and a workplace-based project. Students must successfully complete both parts of the assessment within two years of the result declaration for the first unit successfully completed, in order to achieve the qualification.


Whilst there are no formal entry requirements for this qualification, candidates should keep in mind that this is a professional level qualification – the equivalent to a degree-level qualification. Thus foundation knowledge of health and safety is advantageous but not essential.
