Safety precautions

Many believed that the Titanic would never be able to sink. Director James Cameron showed in Titanic, the movie, what happened and why it became a terrible disaster. Make sure your company doesn't turn into another Titanic!

Believing that 'nothing can happen,' 'nobody is better,' or 'nobody has the knowledge' is waiting for a disaster to happen in today's competitive society. When risk is not assessed and evaluated it is impossible to implement measures that can control the damage when it struck.

The engineers who designed Titanic were confident the ship would survive any collision. They, therefore, didn't see a need to 'tarnish' its beauty by adding additional lifeboats that could save both the entire crew and passengers. Edward Smith, the captain of the Titanic, didn't mind. He felt comfortable about the distance when he kept an eye on the iceberg through his binoculars. But he clearly forgot that what he saw was, what is on average, a third of the total mass. The two-third below the surface sealed his faith.

If concerns would have been followed up and precautions would have been taken, an additional 1523 crew and passengers would have survived the incident and made it to their final destination. The only downside would have been that Cameron's movie would never have become a hit and Leonardo di Caprio would, perhaps, have never been discovered. But some wouldn't mind about this either. Stay on top and stay ahead by simply implementing what your assessment has learnt you. It is not the third that you can see coming, but the two-third below the waterline that seals faith!
