lifting machine operators

Training lifting machine operators about their responsibilities. The safety of those around him is solely the responsibility of the operator of lifting equipment. This person is not expected to perform the right moves at the right time, but he also needs to be aware of what he is doing – something that will be thoroughly explained during training.

Equipment operators have to be knowledgeable about the stacking activity they are about to carry out. It is essential that the operator is familiar with his surrounding at the work site. This will ensure he avoids any risks and takes all necessary precautions.

Operators have to assess and examine the nature of the items they are about to stack. They need to be aware of what the items are and what they should look out for. Items can be stacked in different ways and operators have to be trained about how different products should be stacked. For example, operators should be educated about how to identify the shape, sizes and mass of articles.

Different forklifts have different load limits. Drivers should be trained to be aware of where to find this information or how to determine the limit of a forklift and how to estimate the mass of loads that are being lifted. Drivers should be educated never to overload forklifts, so that they do not cause incidents or injuries.

Equipment operators are trained about the way a forklift, or any other machine, should be driven. While the speed of those machines is not that high when they are driven around, driving too fast or taking a corner incorrectly could cause a serious incident.

Even though most companies subject their machinery to regular inspection for safety, some machines are not used on a daily basis. If a forklift is not regularly in use, it is the operator's responsibility to test it before use, to ensure it is in good working condition. Operators can only do so if they know what to look for, how often and how this should be assessed. Failure to do so can put the driver's life at risk, as well as that of other people on the work site.

As it is the responsibility of a machinery operator to ensure that the stacking process does not endanger employees working at the site, the operator should also be trained to use the right signals at the right time to alert other employees if there is a need to take any action. Operators should also be trained about acoustic or sound signals that can be used.

While the aim of the training is to educate operators about the correct use of equipment to stack items, learners will also be trained to identify an unsafe stack. It doesn't matter who mounted an unsafe stack, as soon as it is identified, it should be dismantled immediately ' and this should be done correctly. This will help reduce cases of goods falling on employees or crashing to the floor and being damaged.

Operators should also be trained about the consequences of unsafe stacks and what the impact could be for the company. During the training, learners will also be introduced to processes for reporting such cases and whom to call to inspect or repair it.

An equipment driver is the person responsible for ensuring that activities are conducted without affecting fellow employees who are doing their jobs. This is something this person is only able to do if he knows what to do or what to look for. Send them for training!
