Implementation and evaluation - Module 6

Learners participating in the MAKROSAFE Health and Safety Certificate are assessed regularly. This will not be different with the final Module, which looks at implementation and evaluating measures and steps to avoid incidents from happening (again). But passing this assessment will not just show that learners understood what the content was about; it will prove they are able to make a change, time and again.

The final Module of this certificate teaches learners the implementation and evaluate measures they have put in place following a risk assessment that was conducted. How a risk assessment should be conducted, what the scope of a risk assessment is, what principles should be respected and which law should be obeyed, are all things that were discussed in previous modules of the . Most of these matters revolve around of applying knowledge and, to some extent, common sense. What makes this final Module different is that it demands that learners are flexible and strict without being afraid of evaluating their own role and opinion all by themselves.

This not only requires knowledge, it also requires a personality.

The implementation and evaluation module ensures that learners will be able to explain the importance of integrating health and safety considerations into routine activities at the workplace. They are expected to identify the critical areas in order to prevent incidents taking place (again). Learners will be expected to be able to measures safety performance against established objectives and to be able to deal with any deviation from the set objectives. Lastly, the learner will also be expected to be able to develop a health and safety management plan.

This final module is module six of the MAKROSAFE Health and Safety Certificate which also looked into legislation, activities of health and safety representatives, health and safety inspections, and health and safety principles regarding the movement of people and machinery and risk assessment.

By the time learner's start working on this final module, each module will have been discussed and revised extensively, as knowledge obtained during those modules is vital to succeed with module six. Learners will also understand and appreciate why MAKROSAFE placed so much emphasis on employing experienced lecturers who, apart from being able to discuss the content, can also rely on a wealth of experience in the industry. This 'implementation and evaluation' Module will be the Module where experience, common sense and knowledge will be put together and will show who understands everything best.

Being successful in the field of health and safety isn’t defined by the ability to understand the law or read a manual. It is also not defined by the ability to apply common sense. Employers where health and safety are not up to scratch stand to lose much more than equipment in the case of a (serious) incident; with the Department of Labour having become very strict, they could lose their entire business once permits are taken away or operations have to cease. A health and safety practitioner who manages to find the perfect balance between, law and common sense will, ultimately, make a very important difference. Graduates who successfully conclude the MAKROSAFE Health and Safety certificate will have proven they know how to attain that balance.
