Fight fires

With the country heading towards winter, time has come to double-check the company's preparedness for fires again. Fire is the most destructive element of nature, but is often started by human error. It is impossible to prevent fires from happening, but there is much that can be done to limit their possible devastating impact.

Fire extinguishers are often the first tool used when a fire breaks out. This makes it essential that every fire extinguisher is in perfect working condition at all times. A monthly inspection is required to check the working condition of the extinguishers. The inspection should also check that the fire extinguisher can be removed from its mounting easily and quickly and that the instructions are readable as valuable time can be wasted if these two items pose a problem. If there is a problem, replacement of the fire extinguisher should be considered.

But even if all safety guidelines have been met and approved, it is still important to evaluate from time to time whether the specific fire extinguisher is the correct type for the class of fire that could be expected. The presence of extra raw materials used in manufacturing or finished goods that cannot be taken away as quickly as they have been manufactured, are signs of a healthy productivity and order book. They should not become food for a fire too!
